Chopta is known for several trekking routes that run through it and around it. One of the most popular routes is to the Chandrashila peak, a trek of around 9 km. En route falls the sacred Tungnath temple, the highest Shiva shrine in the world.
How do I go from Delhi to Chopta?
There is no direct connection from New Delhi to Chopta. However, you can take the bus to Samas Pur Jagir, take the bus to Rishikesh, then take the taxi to Chopta. Alternatively, you can take the train to Kotdwara then take the taxi to Chopta.
Is snowfall in Chopta?
January to Mid March is the snow season of Chopta and you can enjoy the skiing here in Chopta and do snow treks. Trees are laden with snow and Chopta is picturesque. The temperature drops minimum to minus five and it snows throughout. Snow last tills March.
Is Chopta safe for kids?
Chopta Chandrashila is great place. To trek with 6 & 12 yrs old kids in Dec to Tungnath & Chandrashila will be too much. Even Tungnath way will be covered with snow. To do Chandrashila in deep snow you need to rethink.

Can we go Chopta by car?
National highways to Chopta is the only way to reach here from major cities of Uttarakhand. You can reach Chopta by own car can hire a cab from Haridwar/Rishikesh/Dehradun and Delhi. Our suggestion is halt for a night at Rishikesh /Haridwar if you are coming from Delhi by own car .
Is Chopta safe to visit now?
Yes, Chopta is open throughout the year. Just note that the Tungnath temple would get closed in mid November. You can however still trek to Tungnath from Chopta and enjoy the breathtaking Himalayan views.
Is there mobile network in Chopta?
Only Jio mobile networks is working now in Chopta’s treks. Vodafone, airtel and BSNL are work during the trek to Tungnath and Chandrashila and Vodafone and Jio are mobile networks that work at Deoriatal.
How many days are enough for Chopta?
For a comfortable and immersive experience in Chopta, including the Tungnath and Chandrashila trek, a minimum of 3-4 days is recommended.
Is Chopta crowded in June?
Ideally the best time to visit any place is considered when the weather conditions are delightful. For Chopta, you can choose to go in May and June which is the peak season and July, August, September, October and November which is the moderate season. Both will serve you well to unwind from your tedious routine.
